The firm was established in San Francisco in 1978 by former Assistant United States Attorneys Richard Sideman and David Bancroft. At the time, there weren’t many firms hiring attorneys to practice business crime defense and criminal, civil and tax law, so Richard and David took matters into their own hands. They were the first former federal prosecutors in Northern California to leave those positions to open their own firm. The firm has grown into one of the most well-regarded mid-size law firms in California and is known for highly specialized practice areas targeted at sophisticated corporations and distinguished private clients such as brand protection, estate planning, family law and tax.
