The AIDS Legal Referral Panel (ALRP), based in San Francisco, provides free and low-cost legal services to people living with HIV/AIDS. They address a range of legal issues, including housing, immigration, employment, and estate planning, to improve clients’ health and stability. ALRP collaborates with volunteer attorneys and offers workshops, resources, and direct representation to ensure access to justice and advocacy for their clients.
Overview: This training will address if and when when it is appropriate to open a formal probate proceeding following the death of a loved one. We will discuss passing assets directly to the person(s) entitled to them, statutory alternatives to probate, and what to expect if none of the non-probate options work.
