With over two decades of litigation experience, Ellen Leonida is a seasoned trial lawyer who has first chaired more than 80 jury trials in state and federal courts. Her extensive background includes representing individual and corporate clients in a broad range of criminal and regulatory matters. She also handles complex civil litigation, including cases involving trade secret misappropriation and unfair business practices. Prior to joining Sideman & Bancroft, Ellen served as the head of the impact litigation and white-collar groups at a boutique litigation firm in San Francisco.
In her new role as Co-Chair of the Criminal Defense Practice Group, Ellen will work alongside Jay Weill, a distinguished attorney with decades of experience in civil and criminal tax controversy matters, white-collar defense, and complex commercial litigation. Jay’s tenure as Chief of the Tax Division at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in San Francisco, where he supervised criminal and civil tax cases, brings invaluable insights to our practice.
Together, Ellen and Jay will lead our firm’s efforts in providing comprehensive legal counsel to clients facing a wide array of criminal matters, from investigations to trials and appeals.
