Sideman & Bancroft is pleased to announce that Alex Bukac has joined the firm as an associate in its Brand Integrity and Innovation, Litigation and Appeals, and Intellectual Property groups. He will be based in San Francisco.
Mr. Bukac focuses his practice on brand protection, helping his clients devise unique and effective enforcement mechanisms to protect their brand portfolios. He also has broad litigation experience in arbitrations, depositions, and trials, and has argued in state and federal courts.
“Alex’s ability to craft innovative protection strategies and see disputes through all phases of litigation affords him an invaluable perspective on complex brand matters,” said Jeffrey Hallam, managing partner of the firm and co-head of the Brand Integrity and Innovation Group. “He’ll be an extraordinary asset to our clients, and we’re excited to have him on board.”
In addition to his brand protection experience, Mr. Bukac has prosecuted and defended class actions; litigated employment cases involving claims for discrimination, harassment, and retaliation; advised major securities firms regarding customer complaints against financial advisors; litigated personal injury claims; handled contract disputes; and participated in government investigations of maritime vessels relating to both property damage and regulatory compliance.
Mr. Bukac was part of a team that defended against alleged violations of the False Claims Act, Civil RICO, and the Insurance Frauds Prevention Act in what was one of the largest healthcare fraud cases in California history. He also asserted claims for negligence and breach of contract on behalf of a Fortune 20 company against the largest public utility in California for damages arising from an unexpected power outage, which resulted in a favorable settlement.

Mr. Bukac was most recently an associate at Gibbs Law Group in Oakland. He earned his J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law, graduating magna cum laude and earning the Academic Excellence Award, presented to a student in the graduating class “who has made an extraordinary contribution to the intellectual life of the law school.” Mr. Bukac earned his B.A. in political science from Occidental College, where he played on the baseball team.
